Live flower arrangement by Ms. Kiyu Sono of the Aoyama Goryu School

| The Aoyama Goryu school, which originated in the early Kamakura period (1185-1333), developed greatly in the late Edo period (1603-1868). The style, which has maintained its prestige and tradition, has undergone a remarkable revival since the reign of the 28th Sono Rakusan, actively presenting ikebana suitable for the new era as well as reviving traditional beauty. The contents of the doctrine include “Aoyama Goryu Kutai Denden,” which emphasizes tradition, “Unification of Basic Flower Arrangements” for all types of vases, and the “Shuhari” concept, which indicates a new practice procedure. The Aoyama Goryu also advocates “zanka” and establishes “seichuseisen” (the line between the center and the center of the flower), among other things. In addition, the Aoyama Goryu Rakuzankai, a national organization, was reestablished to promote ikebana activities with its members. The current Iemoto, KIYU Sono, 29th generation (born in 1975), learned flower arrangement from his father, Rakuzan Sono, from the age of 10, and studied art history at Waseda University. After graduation, he served as a priest for five years before succeeding to the Iemoto position in 2021. Profile.
Iemoto of the 29th generation of the Aoyama Goryu school of ikebana flower arrangement.
Born in Tokyo, graduated from Waseda University, Faculty of Letters I.
He learned ikebana from his father, Sono Rakuzan, at the age of 10, and started teaching ikebana at the age of 20. After working as a Shinto priest for five years, he became a vice-kemoto of the Aoyama Goryu school of ikebana. He succeeded to the position of Iemoto in 2021.
